Newcastle City Hall Restoration
Work commences in February 2016 and will be completed in the second half of 2017.
Conservation of the southern and part of the eastern sandstone façade will include windows, lead flashing, waterproof membranes, timber doors and lighting.
Conservation work will also be carried out on the Southern porte cochere and balcony sandstone, King Street concrete driveway, main access steps and ramp structures.
Council has awarded the tender for conservation work to Stone Mason and Artist Pty Ltd, who are responsible for the City Hall clock tower restoration.
Scaffolding will remain on the southern and eastern facades of City Hall for the duration of the work, but impacts to the operation of City Hall will be minimal with functions and events to continue as normal.
Building works will take place during work hours from Monday - Friday and from 8am - 1pm on Saturdays. There will not be any work in the evenings or on Sundays and public holidays.
This large-scale restoration will reduce future maintenance costs and is part of the City Hall Conservation Management Plan adopted in 2008.
