Newcastle people not only love their coffee but they take it seriously too. Gone are the decaf days, in are the Coffeesmith's where its more about the flavour and less about just something to get you through the day. Whilst the list is an extensive one there are a few stand outs that are worth detouring for.
Welsh Blacks in the back streets of Cooks Hill is a must visit, as is Core Espresso and Glee Coffee Roasters on Darby Street. Sherwood Coffee Bar in Parry Street is a fave among locals as is Estabar located just opposite Newcastle Beach. Bolton Street Pantry serves up The Grounds coffee beans and just down the road is another local favourite, Good Brother Espresso.
If coffee is something you obsess over, there are a few options outside of the Newcastle CBD that are worth exploring. Mr Sister Coffee at Westfield Kotara were the pioneers of coffee in Newcastle, Fortunate Son in Beaumont Street is also a find for coffee lovers. Young guns, The Locomotive, are popular with the Mayfield set, as are Porta Filter and Side Pocket Espresso.
