Time to enrol to vote for Council election
With Newcastle City Council's election less than two months away, it's time to make sure you're officially enrolled to vote.
The NSW Electoral Commission is managing the Saturday 9 September 2017 local government election for which electoral rolls close at 6pm on Monday 31 July.
All electors living in the City of Newcastle local government area who are enrolled on the Commonwealth/State electoral roll will be included on the roll for the election.
If you have moved to Newcastle since the last election, you will need to update your enrolment to vote in this election.
To check your enrolment details, or to obtain an enrolment form, visit www.votensw.info
or phone 1300 135 736. Resident enrolment forms are also available from any Australia Post office.
Voting in local Government elections is compulsory for all electors listed on the residential roll.
If you own property that's not your primary residence within the City of Newcastle local government area (or are a rate-paying lessee or occupier of rateable land), you or a nominee may be entitled to enrol as a non-residential owner of rateable land.
Details of the eligibility criteria and enrolment claim forms can be obtained by visiting www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au
The claim form must be completed and lodged with Newcastle City Council by 6pm Monday 31 July 2017.
