Tyrrell St Bridge Replacement
Tyrrell Street bridge is being demolished and replaced with a higher, longer bridge to mitigate flooding in the area. This is the first part of Ironbark Creek flood mitigation works in Wallsend. Works will commence on site from mid-September 2019.
Works include alterations to Tyrrell St adjacent to the bridge to match the raised bridge levels, renewal of utilities through the bridge, stormwater and landscaping works.
There will be traffic and pedestrian detours throughout the works, please visit https://transportnsw.info/trip#/
for bus route and timetable changes.
Details of the project are as follows:
• Replacing existing bridge with a higher, longer bridge.
• Footpath, bridge and drainage replacement.
• Road resurfacing where affected by construction to council standards.
• Redirecting traffic and bus routes during construction of bridge.
The construction program is scheduled to finish mid to late 2020, depending on weather and other factors. Tyrrell St bridge will be closed to all traffic for the duration of works. Bus routes will be temporarily changed and the car park at 28 Tyrrell St will be partially closed as a site compound for the duration of works.
Work will be carried out on weekdays during daylight hours unless advertised otherwise.
There will be some noise from machinery and increased truck movements in and around the work zone.
Further information will be provided as work progresses.
