Planning Agreements Register

A Planning Agreement is an agreement entered into by a planning authority (such as Newcastle Council) and a developer to enable a broad range of public benefits to be negotiated in relation to Planning Proposals and Development Applications.

The following is a brief description of the Planning Agreements, Council has entered into:

  Description
  • Construct a multipurpose community centre co-located with a local level sporting complex, including car parking
  • Make a monetary contribution towards the provision of a regional cycleway link
  • Construct two park lands/playgrounds
  • Dedicate to Council two Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Parks
  • Construct two Sanctuary Estate entry statements on each of the developments two entry roads off Minmi Road.

2   Hexham Train Support Facility Planning Agreement
  Parties City Of Newcastle & Aurizon Operations Limited
  Date of Execution 15 February 2016
  Land to which the PA relates The agreement applies to a 255 hectare site located on the western side of the New England Highway and the Great Northern Railway.  The specific parcels of land are outlined in Schedule 3 of the Planning Agreement.
  Description Under the Planning Agreement Aurizon will contribution $260,000 towards the upgrade of Tuxford Park Shortland.

  Description
  • Embellishment of open space to create a new Civic Link, Darby Plaza and expanded Foreshore Park;
  • Dedication of the above mentioned open space, including buildings within;
  • Maintenance and restoration of heritage buildings and facilitates adaptive reuse of Newcastle Station and Signal Box;
  • Remediation works to be carried out in accordance with a Remediation Action Plan,
  • Widening of Civic Lane;
  • Funding of an affordable housing project on a specified site with a fallback position of a minimum of 10% of total residential development as affordable housing,
