New Year's Eve 2017 EOI

New Year's Eve is a major city celebration that has been managed by Newcastle City Council since 2000. With NYE 2020 firmly in our sights,
Council plans to grow the event to reflect Newcastle's status as a significant regional and emerging global city.

The aim for NYE 2017 is to present an event that is:

  1. A celebration for and about The City of Newcastle
  2. Smart and spectacular
  3. Accessible and inclusive
  4. Safe

A celebration for and about The City of Newcastle

Newcastle is in a period of great transformation, firmly building its identity as a modern, innovative and revitalised city. Major investment is being made with the implementation of light rail and the University's new inner-city campus.

The Supercars event in November will bring national and international focus to the city, further cementing Newcastle's reputation as an event city and tourist destination.

All these factors present an ideal opportunity to package, theme and promote NYE 2017 as a celebration for and about The City of Newcastle.

Smart and spectacular

Council is developing its first smart city strategy to improve liveability, sustainability and economic diversity, develop local innovation, build international profile and attract talent and inward investment to our city.

NYE 2017 provides an opportunity to creatively showcase Newcastle as a smart city through the use of innovative technologies to provide light, colour and movement as part of the event program.

Accessible and inclusive

Council has a commitment to making Newcastle an accessible and inclusive place. NYE provides an opportunity for Council to role model best practice in delivering an accessible and inclusive event, including the inclusion of an accessible viewing area, signage and pre-event communication.

Safe

Council will work with key stakeholders including NSW Police, RMS, NSW Ambulance, Transport for NSW and internal Council operational managers to deliver a safe event that maintains public order and minimises the risk of harm to participants and the environment.

Expressions of Interest

Newcastle City Council would like to engage suppliers to develop and deliver 'smart city' elements and roving performers for NYE 2017 to provide activation, entertainment and flow at the flag ship event.

Two Expressions of Interest are currently open seeking creative, innovate and talented organisations to put forward their proposals.
