Help us plan for the future

Community Facilities Strategy

Our community facilities play an important role in Newcastle. We want your help in planning for the future.

Community Facilities Strategy
Did you know we have 20 Council owned community halls, senior citizens centres and community centres across Newcastle? From knitting to Taekwondo, meditation to birthday parties, our centres are important hubs in our communities.

We are interested in how people currently use our social infrastructure which can be described as "the glue that hold communities together" and maintains our standard of living and quality of life.

By creating a Community Facilities Strategy we will;
  • Provide a strategic framework for the equitable provision, development and management of Community Centre assets.
  • Ensure the City of Newcastle has a network of community assets that provide for a diverse range of activities and create opportunities for community members to connect with one another.
Check out our interactive map to see where our facilities are located.

How you can get involved

Phase 1 of the engagement process (16 Nov - 20 Dec 2018) will target current users of the facilities and seek understanding of current usage, expectations and future priorities.
Complete our user survey  Open until Thurs 20 December 2018 (5pm).

If there are barriers to you or your group accessing the survey online, please contact us at engage@ncc.nsw.gov.au or phone 4974 2000 to discuss how we can support you in participating.

Phase 2 (Feb/March 2019) will test some key findings and proposed strategic directions. You will be able to participate online and in person at events and a facility open house session. Stay tuned for more information.
