The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
We are proud to support the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence which starts today and finishes on Monday 10 December, International Human Rights Day. This year's theme is: Orange the World #HearMeToo.
Each of our library branches will be displaying a dress sewn by Walk a Mile Koori Style volunteers, with each dress representing a woman whose life was lost to violence in 2018.
We will also be showcasing the exhibition Home Dignity Justice, a photographic retrospective being delivered in partnership with the Australian Human Rights Commission.
In addition to our contribution, City of Newcastle will be turning the clock at City Hall orange for the full 16 days. For more information on local events over the 16 days, check out the Facebook page 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence Newcastle. New events are being added all the time, with a real diversity of ways to get involved.
