Newcastle Stories: a series of talks held on the first Thursday of each month

Newcastle's Hunter Street: The First 100 Years
Local author Julie Keating has collaborated with the Local History team to produce an exhibition celebrating the launch of her new book Newcastle's Hunter Street: The First 100 Years.

The exhibition will feature images from the library's collection.

Newcastle Kindergarten Society
In the early years of the 20th century, the Newcastle Kindergarten Society was founded to provide early childhood education for the children of working class families across Newcastle. This philanthropic venture was led by Essie Wood and early childhood educator Harriet Dumolo, who trained young Newcastle women to be kindergarten teachers.

Help Wanted
For more than a century the newspaper was the primary platform for communicating with the community. Join us to explore how 'Help Wanted' classifieds capture the changing nature of life and work in Newcastle. Whether it was a large company looking for apprentices or the local newsagent needing a paperboy, it was all in the newspaper.
