Natural Connection

Council's Natural Connection program delivers a range of activities that connects the community to Newcastle's unique natural areas. Through engagement, education and community partnerships the program strives to conserve and protect our important coastline, estuary, wetlands, bushland and creeks.

Waterbug Blitz

Spring has sprung and our annual waterbug survey is on again! Come along to one of our sessions, become a waterbug detective and discover the fascinating critters living in your local waterway.

Sunday 7 October

9am - Rankin Park, Cambridge Drive (opposite no. 25), George McGregor Reserve
11am - Carnley Reserve, Blackbutt (near duck pond)
2pm - Kotara Park (near the playground)

Monday 8 October

10am - 3pm Waterbug Training Workshop, Summerhill Waste Management Centre, Wallsend. No experience required (contact us for details)

Tuesday 9 October

9am - Warabrook, Floribunda Close (opposite no. 3), Warabrook Wetlands
11am - Adamstown Heights, end of Claremont Avenue, Claremont Park

Wednesday 10 October

9am - Rankin Park, Hasluck Drive Reserve
11am - Elermore Vale, Aries Way (opposite no. 147), Aries Way Reserve
2pm - Wallsend, End of Iranda Grove

Tuesday 16 October

9am - Rainforest Creek Duck Pond (meet at Carnley Reserve kiosk)
11am - Entrance to Richley Reserve, New Lambton (cnr of Mahoganey Drive and Freyberg Street)

Children under 12 are to be accompanied by an adult. Don't forget your hat, water bottle and enclosed shoes.

Aussie Backyard Bird Count

Make every bird count! From 22 to 28 October Australians across the nation will be heading into their backyards for the annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count.

Join us at our bird friendly activities to discover the birds of Newcastle and learn how to attract some feathered friends to your own backyard.
