About the project
City of Newcastle is in the process of developing a 10-year Sports Facilities Strategic Plan. The plan is being developed to address future demand and inform the ongoing supply, maintenance and upgrade of sporting infrastructure.
City of Newcastle engaged specialised consultant Otium Planning Group to conduct research and analysis. This research and analysis involved management of a consultation period with state and local sporting associations and clubs as was completed February to April this year. This was the first step in gathering insight on how the sporting facilities are valued and currently used by the community.
Understanding and planning for sports and recreation is essential in ensuring the community has sufficient and equal opportunities to live a healthy and active lifestyle. This aligns with the Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan.
To achieve these opportunities, we need to plan for the changes in the sporting and recreation community, and to build in flexibility and ability to existing and future facilities

We invite the community to attend an information session to learn about the research and analysis that will be used to inform the Sports Facilities Strategic Plan.
