The City of Newcastle has four senior citizen centres throughout the city.
- Adamstown - 153 Brunker Road, Adamstown
- Beresfield - 19 Irving Street, Beresfield
- Newcastle - Laing Street, Newcastle
- Mayfield - Hanbury Street, Mayfield
Seniors may also access facilities at the Jesmond, Maryland and Elermore Vale Neighbourhood Centres.
Mission Statement
The Senior Citizens Centres aim to be a focal point for activities and services for all seniors and people with a disability in the Newcastle area.
The Centres promote ageing as a positive process through activities and programs which:
- Acknowledge individual differences
- Recognise personal experience and skills
- Support the potential for growth
- Encourage lifelong learning
- Provide opportunities for group or individual involvement in decisions regarding the Centre.
Goals of Senior Citizen Centres
- To actively cultivate an environment which is open, caring and supporting with the purpose of providing social contact and reducing loneliness in the local community
- Through quality management processes ensure there is equity of access to centres and use of facilities within centres
- To provide activities, learning opportunities, support, and information appropriate to the well being of centre users
- To plan, develop and implement activities and programs in response to expressed needs of centre users.
