What’s the latest news about the new law courts along Hunter St?
Newcastle’s new $94 million law courts development has moved a step closer when the City of Newcastle and the NSW State Government recently exchanged contracts on a parcel of land located at the corner of Burwood and Hunter St
Newcastle Lord Mayor John Tate said that the development of the 10 court building will enhance the city’s opportunities for revitalisation.
"The creation of a legal and justice precinct is one of the objectives of the Hunter St Revitalisation Master Plan and we are now well on our way for making this happen"
Detailed design work on the project has commenced, with construction planned to start around the middle of 2012.
What’s happening to the old Empire Hotel site on Hunter St?
The Hunter Development Corporation has initiated a collaboration with the Newcastle Art School for the delivery of a public art piece in the west end of Hunter St. The art work is currently being developed by the Newcastle Art School and will be installed on the hoarding of the former Empire Hotel site while it is the subject on an Expression Of Interest (EOI) process
Where are areas of mine subsidence located within the city centre?
The NSW Government’s Department of Premiers and Cabinet is coordinating a Mine Subsidence Working Group that is investigating and mapping the extent and nature of mine subsidence beneath the city centre.
Members of the working group include Mine Subsidence Board, Hunter Development Corporation City of Newcastle, and the Property Council.
