Who is helping to maintain the new planters along Hunter St between Crown St and Darby St?

The Newcastle City Centre Committee (NCCC) in partnership with the City of Newcastle has developed a special program to help maintain the new kerbside planters located on Hunter St between Crown and Darby St.

Theft and damage to the new plants have been substantial however local business operators are keen to support the initiative and take back Hunter St back from the vandals

The NCCC now has an inspection process in place though its City Guide service with replacement plants supplied by Council and then installed through a Juvenile Justice program.

What’s happening to the old Empire Hotel site on Hunter St?

Hunter Development Corporation has confirmed that all structures associated with the old Empire Hotel building have now been demolished.

The contractor undertaking this work is currently removing the remaining rubble as well as scaffolding that is no longer needed as part of the demolition process.

A hoarding will be erected around the perimeter of the site. It is also intended to install 2 public information signs onto the hoarding to explain what is happening with the site.
