Heritage register

The Newcastle Heritage Register is a database of all heritage items and heritage conservation areas in Newcastle.

The Register can be searched for information on heritage signficance, description, historical background, and images. All heritage items and heritage conservation areas are included.

If you are preparing a Heritage Impact Statement or development proposal you can download a copy of the datasheet and attach it to your documentation.

How to search

When you click on the link, the database will open in the office of Environment & Heritage website. To obtain a list of the Newcastle heritage items, follow these instructions:

  • In the field 'Local Government Area' select Newcastle
  • In the field 'Listings' select Local Environmental Plan
  • Press search
  • Hover your cursor over the word 'suburb' and left click. The results list will be listed alphabetically by suburb. Scroll through to find the suburb you need.

Please note - the Heritage Branch is currently in the process of applying an update to the Newcastle Heritage Register. While most of the information about heritage items will not change, the register includes a notation to the previous Newcastle Local Environmental Plan 2003 and some heritage items may be missing. If in doubt, please contact the Heritage Strategist, The City of Newcastle, during business hours on (02) 4974 2000.

The database will be updated in early-mid 2013 to reflect the current LEP 2012 information.
