Work in Laman Street has progressed steadily throughout the day and is almost 50% complete.
There has been incorrect information circulating today regarding safety on site and fauna issues, and this needs to be clarified.
Managing fauna
As stated this morning and yesterday afternoon, in accordance with the environmental management plan for the site, a fauna expert is present while work is underway and is inspecting all branches as they are removed for wildlife. Inspections prior to work showed no fauna present in the trees and in line with these earlier inspections, no fauna has been found so far.
Safety on site
The tree removal contractors on site are professional experts in their field of work. It is their duty and obligation to use safe work practices. All contractors and staff on site are even more conscious of this obligation due to the inclement weather. Suggestions that work on site is not being performed to the highest safety standard are completely unfounded.
