There are different types of development, including complying and exempt development.

Exempt development
Exempt development is development that has minimal impact on the local environment and does not require approval from Council.

Complying development
Complying development is development that requires consent but is low impact and meets the complying development standards outlined in the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development) 2008 or Council's LEP.
