Consultations since 2009

Ageing at Home - Council is taking an active role in understanding the needs of its ageing population.

Bar Beach Cliff Stabilisation - Bar Beach Cliff Revitalisation page

Beaumont Street - A proposal by the Hamilton Business District Committee (HBDC) to allow food and beverage business owners to increase their kerb width to accommodate additional customer dining has been explored by Council for approximately five years.

Blackbutt Reserve - This consultation was conducted on behalf of Place Management Services to gather opinion on the current and future services and facilities at Blackbutt Reserve

Budget and Delivery Plan 2011 - Community consultation, held during May 2011, in relation to the forthcoming budget and 4 year delivery program.

City Engagement Charter - The draft City Engagement Charter was adopted by Council on 21 February. Eleven submissions were received during the public exhibition.

City events - This consultation was conducted on behalf of Tourism and Economic Development Unit to inform the community about Council’s decision and rationale for the event locations for Fat as Butter and Rodeo Rockfest - scheduled to occur in October 2010, and to identify the key areas of sensitivity for local residents in relation to traffic, noise, rubbish and people management.

City Expo - What are your rates doing for you? Community members joined councillors and council staff at the City Expo to find out.

Community Survey 2012 - The aim of the survey is to assess community attitudes towards the provision of services in the city. It has helped gain community insight regarding satisfaction with overall Council performance , benchmarking Council’s performance with Victorian local governments and The City of Newcastle ‘s 2008 results.

Cycling in Newcastle - The Newcastle Cycling Working Party was convened in September 2009 to develop and implement a Newcastle Cycling Strategy and a 5 year Action Plan, aimed at improving cycle use, infrastructure, services, awareness and cycling safety in the Newcastle local government area – leading to increased cycling activity as a transport alternative in Newcastle, in accordance with Council resolutions of 17 February 2009 and 19 May 2009.

Empire Park - Community consultation about the upgrade to Empire Park skate facility took place on 30 and 31 March.

Family Day Care - Consultation was conducted on behalf of Life Services to gather information about satisfaction with Council’s Family Day Care coordination unit and its carers. Consultation was conducted with the current users and carers of Newcastle Five Star Family Day Care (FDC).

Hunter Street - The purpose of this consultation was to encourage broad community engagement about the future of Hunter Street, identifying current priorities and strengths which can be built on

Kotara Parking - Kotara and Adamstown Heights Traffic and Parking Study workshop

Laman Street - The consultation was conducted on behalf of Strategic Planning Services to develop a vision for the future of the Laman Street – Civic Precinct. It was conducted within the Newcastle local government area, inviting Newcastle Voice community reference panel members as well as the broader community.

Leash free areas - This consultation was conducted on behalf of Compliance Services to gather community views on Council’s leash free areas, dog agility area and areas where dogs are prohibited.

Mainstreets - This consultation was conducted on behalf of Business Excellence services to gather community opinion regarding opportunities for improvement and possible expansion of Newcastle’s special benefit rates program to other existing commercial centres. Consultation was conducted with the small business community and property owners in Newcastle’s mainstreets areas.

National Park - Council has prepared the draft Plan of Management for National Park. The Plan sets out a clear direction for the future of National Park and how this area is to be developed, managed and used over the coming years.

Newcastle by Night - The night time economy continues to interest all of NSW. In 2009, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle directed the administration to take a leadership role in addressing the city’s own issues with a view to increasing public safety. The consultation was conducted on behalf of Place Management Services who will prepare Council’s Alcohol Management Strategy.

Panel satisfaction - After one year of operation, Council wanted to measure how satisfied members are with Newcastle Voice.

Significant community issues - Newcastle Voice online panel members and Councillors for The City of Newcastle were asked to provide their feedback to help us better meet the needs of the community and identify areas for improvement in the process Council adopts to manage key issues in the future.

Social Planning - Community consultation report to contribute to Council's Social Plan (2011-2016)

South Stockton Public Domain - Consultation was conducted on behalf of Strategic Planning Services to gather community opinion on proposals put forward in the draft South Stockton Public Domain Plan (PDP).

Special Rates Variation - The City of Newcastle determined in September 2011 that it needs additional funds to provide civic upgrade and renewal projects and deliver on the 10-year community strategic plan. To provide these funds, Council needs to apply for a special rates variation.

Wallsend Park Skate Facility - Community consultation to determine requirements for Wallsend Park Skate Facility upgrade, May-Jul 2010

Waste services - In December 2009 Council adopted a recommendation covering several aspects of the domestic waste collection service.

We love our coast - The Masterplan will guide future decisions and community consultation will continue as more detailed projects and plans are developed. The draft plan focuses on three sectors – northern, central and southern – and outlines different opportunities available in each precinct.
