How to apply

Before you apply for a position please read the Position Information Kit and the Position Description (available as a separate document with the job advertisement) carefully to assess your eligibility for the position.

As The City of Newcastle operates a merit-based recruitment process you must address all of the selection criteria detailed in the position description for your application to be considered.

Your application must explain how your qualifications, skills, competencies and experience meet the selection criteria.

Failure to do this prevents the selection panel from easily and accurately assessing your suitability relative to other applicants and may exclude you from further consideration.

Preparing your Application

To apply for a vacancy at The City of Newcastle it is preferred that you apply electronically and complete the online application form, attaching your relevant documents.

Your application should include the following:

  • A covering letter stating the vacancy number as listed in the advertisement, position title and why you are applying for the position
  • A statement addressing how you satisfy each of the selection criteria. Consideration for interview is based solely on your clear demonstration that you meet all of the essential criteria for the position 
  • Your resume, detailing your relevant work experience, education and training 
  • Names and contact telephone numbers of at least two referees, ideally one of the referees should be a current supervisor (if appropriate) and the other should also have knowledge of your work performance
  • Any other information which you feel is relevant to your application.

Closing date

Completed applications must be received before 4pm on the advertised closing date.

The Interview

If you are shortlisted for interview, you will be contacted by phone, usually within four weeks of the advertised closing date. You will be advised of the interview date, time, venue and the names of the interviewing panel. You will need to bring with you any original relevant qualifications and photo ID.

If you are not contacted for interview within four weeks of the advertised closing date please consider your application has not been successful at this time.
