Council currently delivers a range of projects as part of our commitment to help the environment by using energy and resources more efficiently.

The Newcastle 2020 Carbon and Water Management Action Plan - The Carbon & Water MAP has an environmental and an economic focus and has been developed to lead our carbon mitigation and water management response into the next decade. The Plan focuses on action in the four targets sectors of Council operations, Residential, Business and Education. View the Newcastle 2020 Carbon and Water Management Action Plan.

ClimateCam® Billboard - Is located in Wheeler Place, Hunter St, Newcastle, Australia. The billboard provides hourly updates on the actual electricity consumption of the City of Newcastle, as compared to the average consumption of the City so far this calendar year. Keep an eye on the Billboard electronic sign for events and information.

ClimateCam® for Communities - Supporting communities in sustainable living and to save money on energy and water at home.

ClimateCam® for Schools - An 8 milestone based program to assist schools in energy and resource management. The ClimateCam for Schools program was launched on 27 July 2007.

ClimateCam® for Councils - Based on Newcastle City Council's experience this project provides practical information and strategies to show local councils how to save money, help the environment and engage the community by reducing energy and water consumption and resultant greenhouse gas emissions.

ClimateCam® for Business - A 14 step business mentoring program in Financial Loss Control to increasing business profits by saving energy and resources.

Newcastle Small Business Sustainability Initiative (NSBSI) - Newcastle City Council, in collaboration with the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC), is offering small businesses in Newcastle this new sustainability program. The program combines Council's existing ClimateCam for Business program and DECC's Energy Efficiency for Small Business program to help business to save money while improving environmental performance.

ECO STAR™ - An innovative project which is saving ratepayer dollars and reducing water and energy consumption at parks, beaches and pools

Water Harvest - Supplementing town water with bore water for irrigation

Pacific Park Fountain - Demonstrating how solar energy can be used to replace coal fired electricity reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in Newcastle

Biodiesel - Reducing transport greenhouse gas emissions through use of alternative fuels in Council's fleet 

Landfill gas - The extraction and conversion of methane to carbon dioxide for the conversion to Green Power
