Plants and advice

Plant sales

Plants sales and giveaways are now held at Blackbutt Reserve, at the Settlers Cottage, Carnley Avenue entrance. These are available daily between 10am to 3pm.

City of Newcastle rate payers can bring their current rates notice and collect two free native tubestock plants.

Plants are also for sale at $2.50 each.

Available plants include a selection of grasses and ground covers, small shrubs, large shrubs and some trees. Some of these include

  • acacia (wattles)
  • banksias
  • callistemon (bottlebrush)
  • dianella (paroo lily)
  • doryanthes (gymea lily)
  • hardenbergia
  • leptospermum (tea trees)
  • lomandra (matt rush) and
  • westringia (coastal rosemary)

All of these plants are endemic to Newcastle. Planting these in your garden will improve biodiversity and provide habitat and food for our local wildlife.

A detailed list of current stock is available by emailing the city greening team at mlinsley@ncc.nsw.gov.au or Blackbutt on blackbuttadmin@ncc.nsw.gov.au

Plant species will change regularly due to seasons and plant availability.
