Parking your car

Parking your car in Newcastle can be made easier if you know where you can park your car and follow some of our practical tips.

Council has produced a brochure about Parking in Newcastle (364kb pdf) which provides information as well as a map (1.01mb pdf) of parking in the CBD.

Remember that street parking in Newcastle’s City Centre is intended for short-term stays. For longer stays, consider using a parking station or perhaps leave the car at home and catch a bus, ferry or train.

Here are some more tips to help you with parking in Newcastle:

Read the signs

Regulated parking areas are clearly signposted to inform drivers of parking requirements. Please read the signs carefully to avoid the risk of receiving an infringement notice.

Ask a Parking Officer

Parking Officers are approachable and will be pleased to provide assistance with parking, directions and general information on the City.

Be aware

Some parking zones change to Clearways at various times on selected days.

Do not stop

Do not stop at any time in No Stopping Zones, Clearways or at Bus Zones.

Do not park in a Loading Zone

Unless you are driving a vehicle primarily designed for the carrying of goods.

Do not park in Disabled Parking Zones

Unless you have a valid RTA Mobility Parking Scheme permit displayed in your vehicle (the penalty is in excess of $380.00).

Do not park within 10 metres of an intersection

Without traffic lights or within 20 metres of an intersection with traffic lights unless a parking sign indicates otherwise.

Plan ahead

Be aware that during peak times, it may take a few minutes to find a parking space. If you are visiting the city for an appointment, call ahead to ask about parking options and check if your appointment is running on time. Leave enough time to find a park without rushing and have some coins on hand.
