Storm remembered
The rain poured and poured down on Friday 8 June 2007, causing widespread flooding and chaos around Newcastle.
While attention was drawn to the Pasha Bulker carrier ship aground off Nobbys Beach, many workers in the CBD struggled to get home in roads that were deep in water.
Stories of heroic acts of bravery trickled out as people were rescued from their homes and provided shelter.
Over the following days and weeks Council staff and other utilities worked overtime collecting waste, removing tree debris and cleaning up the city.
The indomitable spirit of Novocastrians shone through as people took care of each other and helped the badly affected.

The storm hits Blackbutt Reserve

Trucks came from a number of Sydney and neighbouring councils to help remove storm debris.

- Merewether Baths carpark – landslip repairs $117,000
- Minmi Rd, Wallsend – bridge repairs $817,000
- Newcomen St, Newcastle - retaining wall repairs to be confirmed
