Green waste pickups

A kerbside garden waste collection takes place four times each year throughout the Newcastle City Council area.

A limit of one box trailer (1.8m x 1.2m) or 2 cubic metres of waste material is allowed per household.

Dates for green waste collection days

Download your schedule of greenwaste collection dates for 2008 (24kb pdf) and collection dates for 2009 (25kb pdf).

You will get a notice in your post box telling you about the service at least two weeks before collection day. The notice will outline how you should put out your green waste.

Please place your unwanted grass clippings, tree and plant prunings and timber waste on the outer edge of the footpath on Sunday evening prior to your timetabled collection.

Collection will take place between Monday and Friday of your nominated week. If you experience problems with your garbage bin or collection, contact Council on 02 4974 6066.

Drop Off Spots

If you have regular amounts of garden waste, an environmentally friendly alternative to disposing of it in your household bin is to drop garden waste off at these spots:

Weekly Locations - Saturdays 9:00am - 2:00pm

  • Mayfield West - Corner Werribi Street & Gregson Avenue
  • Hamilton South - Corner Darling & Hassell Streets
  • Lambton, Ford Oval, Womboin Road
  • Cobby Street, Shortland

Monthly Locations - Saturdays 9:00am - 2:00pm

  • Beresfield - Lenox Street - 3rd Saturday of the month
  • Stockton - Corroba Oval, corner Fullerton & Meredith Streets - 2nd Saturday of the month

Only deposit household quantities of green waste (i.e. equal to a car boot load) at the drop-off spots. Drop-off spots operate regardless of weather conditions.

Larger quantities of green waste can be taken to the Summerhill Waste Management Centre. For more information call Waste Collections on 02 4974 6066 or Summerhill Waste Management Centre on 02 4985 6600.

Illegal Dumping

It is illegal to dump green waste in bushland, regardless of the type of garden materials. You can be fined for illegal dumping. Dumping degrades the local environment as it contributes to the spread of weeds in reserves and waterways. Please use the Council services provided for the proper disposal of garden waste.
