Angus Nivison

In Lament 2009, the first work by Angus Nivison to enter the Gallery’s collection, diluted paint is dripped, conte stippled and charcoal striated across the surface. Together these elements conjure a landscape reminiscent of a Chinese landscape in its lyrical verticality. While considered a landscape artist, Nivison demands his works be seen as internal landscapes that are as much about memory and emotion as place. Nonetheless Nivison’s home in Walcha in the New England tablelands is an enduring source of inspiration.
