ARTEXPRESS 2012

ARTEXPRESS HSC visual arts exhibition is on display in the Gallery 5 May - 1 July 2012

ARTEXPRESS presents works created by students for the Higher School Certificate examination in Visual Arts. The exhibition represents a broad range of subject matter, approaches, styles and media.

ARTEXPRESS was first shown in Newcastle in 1982, and since 1992 has appeared annually at the Gallery. The exhibition provides an insight into young people's interests and concerns; while also illustrating the state of visual arts education in New South Wales, the quality of the students’ endeavours, and the talent and professionalism of visual arts teachers in both our public and private schools across the state.

ARTEXPRESS bridges the gap between classroom activities and public presentation - between students’ developing art practice and the gallery system. To consolidate this experience students in the Newcastle exhibition, particularly local students, are involved in a number of associated programs and presentations at the Gallery.

This visually dynamic exhibition presents a cross section of outstanding student artists from New South Wales, nineteen of the thirty seven exhibitors are local students, from both public and private schools of the Hunter Region.

ARTEXPRESS is presented in association with NSW Department of Education and Training and the Office of the Board of Studies NSW.
