2009 Waste as Art competition

03 Jul 2009

Waste As Art 2009 is the tenth and largest in the competition’s history, with over 240 works on exhibition and over $7000 in prizes being awarded.

The exhibition will be officially opened and winners announced at 2pm on Sunday 5 July at the Newcastle Community Art Centre, 246 Parry Street Newcastle.

The exhibited works showcase innovative ways to creatively re-use otherwise wasted materials. Entries are judged on how effectively they address the ‘waste-to-resource’ concept, aesthetic merit, artistic quality, creativity, innovation and craftsmanship.

The exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm from July 7 – 25 at the Newcastle Community Art Centre.

The competition is an initiative of the Hunter Waste Education Group, comprising the Councils of Cessnock, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Newcastle, Port Stephens & Singleton, and the Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW).
