School holiday events

Newcastle City Council offers a range of school holiday activities for kids of all ages, and there are plenty of the things to do in and around our beautiful city.

 

L!vesites and the Newcastle Museum

!vesites and the Newcastle Museum present L!vesites Kids, a school holidays program in October that incorporates science, drama, music, circus, creative Indigenous activities and craft.

The activities will run for six days in the October school holidays between 9:30am – 4:30pm with an hour of minding before and after the main program.

Saturday 3 October

Indent Music NSW & Sound Summit present-Save The Scene Music Industry Workshops & All-ages gig.

(RSVP to max@musicnsw.com) with Eddie Garvan from The Seabellies, Glen Dickie from EMI, Nicholas Milligan from Reverb Magazine, and Markus Wright from Big Apache and Bernadette Ryan an artist manager. 12:30- 3:30pm @ The Loft

Sunday 4 October

Zombie march and film screening 

Wear your best Zombie finery for Newcastle's all-ages march of the Zombies 6pm @ The Carriage Sheds Newcastle Foreshore.

Film Screening- 8-9:30pm at the Chinese Club above GO-LO in Market Square Newcastle Mall.

Monday 5 October

Publich holiday, venue closed.

Tuesday 6 October

Renew Newcastle - Jewellery Making

Participants will create their own jewellery with macramé, leatherwork & metalwork. 12-3pm Meet @ Loft Youth Venue & Arts Brasil Workshop space. Free Class.

For the love of arts

Illustration, creation, printmaking, design & artistic experimentation. 4 – 6pm @ The Loft Youth Venue

Tuesday 13 October

Renew Newcastle - Art Class with Emerald Arts. Sculpture, toy design and construction, Acrylic and Watercolour painting ( blending colours and painting techniques), technical drawing & illustration.

12-3pm @ Meet at The Loft for an excursion to Emerald Arts in Newcastle Mall.

For the love of arts

Wednesday 14 October

RED OCHRE - Aboriginal Art Workshop

During this workshop you will produce art works, either on canvas, or on a bowl, or clock face, learn about mixing paints, using brushes, and you will be given an understanding of Aboriginal Art. Run by Lorraine Oldham. 10-1pm @ The Loft Youth Venue.

Ninjaradio podcast 

Live recording of the Ninjaradio podcast with an extra special guest band interview & live set in the Loft studio. 5:30-6:15pm @ The Loft Youth Venue

Thursday 15 October

Hip-hop dancing

Participants will learn some hot hip-hop dance routines & choreography with our experienced dance teacher Kasey Sheridan. 3-5 pm @ Hamilton Sth Community Centre

Friday 16 October

INZINE

An opportunity for young artists and writers to contribute to The Loft’s quarterly magazine. 4.30 - 6pm @ The Loft Youth

$5 for children and $10 for an accompanying adult

School Holiday Coaching Clinics

October 13 & 16

Only 8 children per class. Choose from two session times: 1.30pm or 3.30pm

$15 per child, includes 1.5 hours tuition, balls, equipment hire (if needed) and a cool drink. To register ph: 4966 4665

Fort Scratchley Historical Site

Visit Fort Scratchley during the October School Holidays and book your family (max 2 adults and 2 children) on a guided tour of the amazing underground tunnels and receive two complimentary souvenir drink bottles! (Valued at $9.00 and available while stocks last.)

The cost of a Family Ticket (2 adults and 2 children) is only $25.00

Additional child ticket is $5.00 (3-16 yrs)

Did you know that Australia’s involvement in WWII is part of the primary school curriculum? A visit to Fort Scratchley can provide students with first hand knowledge of how WWII impacted upon Newcastle.

The Fort is open 6 Days 10am to 4pm (Closed Tuesdays)

General Admission is FREE – a self-guided tour brochure can be collected from the Fort Shop and this can be used to guide you around the barracks and the above ground defence structures.
