Newcastle City Council offers a range of school holiday activities for kids of all ages, and there are plenty of the things to do in and around our beautiful city.
Junior Coaching Clinics at Beresfield Golf Course
Get into the swing of things at a junior coaching clinic at Beresfield Golf Course.

Fort Scratchley tunnel tours
Visit Fort Scratchley and book the family (2 adults and 2 children) on a guided tunnel tour for just $32.50. This $12.50 savings is only available during the July school holidays.
Tours are held at regular intervals throughout the day, with the last tour leaving at 2.30pm.
Fort Scratchley is closed on Tuesdays.
L!vesites
L!vesites’ Kids is back by popular demand in July to keep your rascals active during the July school holidays! Appropriate for 6 – 12 year old children, L!vesites Kids offers a unique range of activities for six days in the school holidays.
Dates: 14, 15, 16 & 21, 22, 23 July
Times: Official program from 9:30am – 4:30pm.
Enrolment and minding from 8:30am – 9:30am & 4:30pm – 5:30pm.

For crafty kids enjoy a day of lantern making with artist Ken O’Regan.
Some of the lanterns made will be part of the Winter Heat event in July.

Delmarco Arts present a special day learning to make a short animated movie, from storyboard to finished film.

Learn exciting circus skills like juggling, tumbling and tricks with the Circus Avalon team.

Animals is the theme of the July holiday program at branch libraries in Newcastle. From stories and craft bursting with animals, to balloon animal fun and meeting a guide dog, there is something for everyone.

Newcastle Region Art Gallery
Every school holidays, art workshops for specific age groups which relate to exhibitions currently on display are conducted in the Gallery’s pavilion workshop area.
Classes will operate 10.30am – 12.30pm from 14 until 24 July and will incorporate the Council sponsored Westfest workshops for 13 – 16 year olds.

Blackbutt Reserve
Newcastle Permanent/Blackbutt Reserve Junior and Cadet Ranger Program
The Junior and Cadet Ranger Program is an environmental education program for kids aged 6-9 (Juniors) and 10-13 (Cadets).
Theme: Bush rangers
Activities include: bush walking, shelter construction using branches, leaves etc, animal spotting, aquatic life and nature walking.
Time: 9.30 - 11.30am at Richley Reserve
Dates: 14,15.16, 21, 22, 23 July 2009
Cost: $15 per child (discounts apply for siblings and includes healthy morning tea provided by Bi-Lo)

Spotlight adventures
Experienced guides will lead you through Blackbutt Reserve at night to discover what our animals do when the sun goes down. Observe possums, owls, bats, insects and other nocturnal wildlife. To complete the experience traditional Billy Tea and damper will be served by the campfire after the adventure

The Loft Youth Venue
Monday 13 July- Aerosol Art Class – 10-12am
Description- Participants will learn the basic skills of creating aerosol murals under the supervision of experienced tutors.
Venue- Elermore Vale Community centre.
Tuesday 14th July- For the Love Of Fashion – 10-12am
Participants will learn simple techniques for altering clothes , screen printing on patches, sewing felt patches & buttons.
Venue- Maryland Multipurpose Centre.
Thursday 16th july- Short Video Production- 10am-4pm
Participants will brainstorm an idea for a short video then script , shoot & edit the film in small groups.
Venue – Wallsend Library.
Friday 17th July – Jewellery Making – 10-12am
Participants will create their own jewellery with macramé, leatherwork & metalwork.
Venue- Loft Youth Venue & Arts Brasil Workshop space.
Wednesday 22nd july – Radio Production & Podcasting. 10am- 3:30pm
Participants will script , create & edit a short radio feature in small teams & get an overview of podcasting.
Venue- Jesmond Neighbourhood centre
Thursday 23 July- Skate Clinic. 10- 12am
Newcastle Skate’s Qualified tutors will teach beginners , intermediate & advanced skateboarding tricks.
Venue- Wallsend Skatepark.
Friday 24th July- Firetwirling.10-12am
Well known Firetwirlers Pyrokinesis will teach beginners , intermediate & advanced firetwirling tricks in a safe & fun atmosphere.
Venue- Newcastle Foreshore Carriage Sheds.
