School water safety education program
The City of Newcastle Water Safety Education Program was delivered in 2011 to thousands of children across 47 local schools.
The program seeks to interactively educate children about water safety – beach safety and learning about rip currents, pool safety and open water safety. By actively engaging the children and empowering them with the knowledge to keep them safe, we hope to prevent child drownings, accidents and minimise children getting into dangerous situations. Both beach and pool lifeguards present the program at local schools during the winter season, in an attempt to ensure the safety of their patrons.
The Water Safety Education Program is free to schools in the Newcastle LGA, however we are open to requests from alternative centres and schools outside of the LGA.
