Senior Citizen Centres

The City of Newcastle has four Senior Citizen Centres throughout the city.

Seniors may also access facilities at the Jesmond, Maryland and Elermore Vale Neighbourhood Centres.

Mission Statement

The Senior Citizens Centres aim to be a focal point for activities and services for all seniors and people with a disability in the Newcastle area.

The Centres promote ageing as a positive process through activities and programs which:

Acknowledge individual differences
Recognise personal experience and skills
Support the potential for growth
Encourage lifelong learning
Provide opportunities for group or individual involvement in decisions regarding the Centre.

To actively cultivate an environment which is open, caring and supporting with the purpose of providing social contact and reducing loneliness in the local community
Through quality management processes ensure there is equity of access to centres and use of facilities within centres
To provide activities, learning opportunities, support, and information appropriate to the well being of centre users
To plan, develop and implement activities and programs in response to expressed needs of centre users.
