Drinking safely
A public education campaign on drinking safety has been coordinated by the Drinking Safety Institute, Newcastle CBD Liquor Accord and other stakeholders including Council.
Approaching an 18 - 25 yr old target audience in a practical and engaging fashion, stage one of the Drinking Safety Institute education campaign saw the distribution of a series of drinking safety instructions modelled on in-flight safety cards.

Posters and 20,000 drinking safety instruction booklets were distributed throughout licensed premises in the Newcastle CBD and a website promoting drinking safety and responsible behaviour has been developed.
The full rollout of the campaign saw drinking safety instructors and stewards visiting venues in April 2011 to help spread the message and further content built on the Drinking Safety Institute website.
The campaign aims to curb antisocial behaviour and ensure the safety and enjoyment of the broader community.
The Newcastle CBD Liquor Accord has initiated a series of measures targeting preloading and other factors contributing to higher levels of intoxication and antisocial behaviour. Further, glasses were removed from venues at certain times and efforts to minimise any negative, broader community impacts were undertaken.
