Last year between January and December 2010 there were 767 car thefts recorded in the Newcastle area. Did you know 70% of passenger and light vehicles stolen were manufactured prior to the year 2000?
Operation Bounce Back is a community education campaign aimed at reducing car thefts in the Newcastle area by promoting prevention tips and raising awareness of vehicle theft in local communities.
It is an initiative of the City of Newcastle and the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council, with support from NSW Police.

An immobiliser give-away offer was also conducted as part of the Operation Bounce Back program. Immobiliser vouchers were distributed to residents of Newcastle who had been previous victims of car theft as well as to owners of cars of more than 10 years of age, which are particularly high-risk. The installations were carried out by Immobilise Now! Installers.
It is important to note that very old cars (manufactured in the 1960s and 1970s) may not be able to be fitted with an immobiliser for under $200 because of degraded and incompatible wiring.
