Secure Taxi Rank
Secure taxi ranks provide a safe way for people to get home late at night from the city centre and Hamilton.
The main aim is to ensure passengers are in a safe and secure environment when waiting for a taxi to get home and taxi drivers can feel safe picking passengers up from a secure rank.
In Hamilton the late night secure taxi ranks operate from
- Cleary Street, adjacent to the Kent Hotel from midnight to 5am, and
- Denison Street, adjacent to the Exchange Hotel from 11pm to 4am.
In the CBD, secure taxi ranks operate from
- the corner of Steel and King Streets, Newcastle West (outside King Street Hotel opposite McDonalds) from midnight to 5am and
- Wharf Road adjacent to The Brewery, midnight to 5am.
Two security guards will be at each rank to help passengers obtain taxis and maintain a safe and secure environment for all. Guards wear easily identifiable safety vests with the words Taxi Security clearly labeled on the back of the vest.
Passengers are asked to show identification and passenger details are recorded on a ticket stub with the ticket given to the passenger for handing to the Driver.
The Newcastle Secure Taxi Rank is a NSW State Government and NSW Taxi Council initiative, proudly supported locally by The City of Newcastle, Newcastle Police and the Newcastle Liquor Accord.
