Green waste
Your lime green lid bin is your green waste bin and this bin is collected from the kerb, alternate weeks to your recycling bin.
Items that can be placed in your green waste bin include:
- garden prunings
- grass clippings
- leaves and bark and
- small branches.
Items that will not be accepted in your green waste bin include:
- materials in plastic bags
- food and kitchen scraps
- soil, bricks or construction waste
- clumps of root material (eg cocos palms and bougainvilleas)
- trees stumps and large limbs
- animal droppings and
- general rubbish and recyclables.

Need a second green waste bin?
You are now able to order a second green waste bin, which will be emptied on the same day as your current green waste service. To order an additional bin, please complete the relevant form on our waste forms page.
Green waste drop offs
Newcastle residents can drop off household quantities of green waste at six locations. Check out which dates work for you.
All locations are available between 9am and 2pm only. Only deposit household quantities of green waste (i.e. equal to a car boot load) at the drop-off spots. Drop-off spots operate regardless of weather conditions.
Larger quantities of green waste can be taken to the Summerhill Waste Management Centre, FEES and CHARGES apply.
