Blackbutt has an extensive volunteer program with participants being able to volunteer within three main areas, they are:

Blackbutt Animal Care

Volunteers assist with a range of animal care and education activities such as:

  • Animal diet preparation and feeding.
  • Exhibit cleaning and maintenance.
  • Animal husbandry.
  • Environmental education.
  • Public presentations/keeper talks.
  • Special events/displays.

Students are welcome to apply to assist with TAFE course requirements and to aid in determining future career goals or to expand their knowledge of Australian flora and fauna.

Students need to be 15 years or older to apply and be prepared to volunteer from 6.30am to 3pm.

Blackbutt Park Maintenance

Volunteers assist with a range of maintenance around Blackbutt Reserve such as:

  • Mowing of turf areas
  • Garden maintenance e.g weed removal, mulching
  • Cleaning of paths and BBQ's.

Blackbutt Kiosk

Dedicated volunteers run the Blackbutt Kiosk 7 days/week between the hours of 10am and 3pm. The Kiosk is the first port of call for all visitors to the Reserve.

Volunteers provide a range of services including:

  • Customer service.
  • Visitor information.
  • Sell merchandise and confectionary/drinks.
  • Make tea/coffee.
  • Stocktake souvenirs.
