Our Approach to Advocacy

Our Approach to Advocacy

We present Newcastle in alignment with the Newcastle 2040 vision. Newcastle is a smart, liveable and sustainable global city; a place for everyone. Similarly, we position Newcastle as a leader in smart city innovation, a place where good ideas have the opportunity to grow.

We utilise a robust evidence base to outline the current level of State and Federal Government investment in our city.

We promote our partnership with like-minded Councils, Wollongong City Council and City of Greater Geelong, and recognise the similarities and the collective opportunities for our cities.

We build strong and valuable relationships with key individuals within the public sector.

We identify and consistently utilise local evidence to articulate local impacts. Local evidence is obtained in several formats including localised data, case studies and local stories.

We plan our advocacy in stages. Topics / focuses will be built on year-on-year, with a clear long-term goal in mind. We design advocacy in practical terms to demonstrate value and provide evidence.

  • Headline policy / funding asks
  • Detailed policy / funding asks
  • The context – how we measure up
  • Local data and insights
  • Local stories
  • How we are helping ourselves
  • Opportunity to partner with us – Local Government as a connector for policy expertise

We measure the public value delivered through our strategic advocacy.
