Newcastle Ocean Baths, Newcastle Beach, Nobbys Beach and Nobbys Lighthouse (via Macquarie Pier) will be open to the public over the three-day event weekend.  Access will be via Bathers Way from King Edward Park.

Accreditation is the term used by Supercars for the wristbands issued to residents, businesses and service providers to facilitate access to the precinct during the event.

Supercars will return to the city in 2023 when Newcastle hosts the season opener of the Supercars Championship series with a three-day event in March.

The major motorsport event is held on the Newcastle East street circuit, and returns after a three-year hiatus caused by COVID-19. It has shifted to become the season opener, following successful finale events held in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Supercars Australia delivers the annual Supercars Championship series at a range of venues around Australia.  In partnership with Destination NSW and City of Newcastle, the Newcastle 500 is one event scheduled in the national series.

Destination NSW, City of Newcastle and Supercars Australia have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (available on the Newcastle 500 Documents page), setting out each entity's distinct responsibilities for funding, administering, presenting, and authorising the race in Newcastle in accordance with relevant local, state and federal planning controls and legislation.

The flagship event was rescheduled from the final event of the season to the first race of the 2023 season, following a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19. You can read about Council decisions and announcements regarding the race on the Event Information page.

The Newcastle 500 event program will run from Friday 10 March to Sunday 12 March 2023. Activity generally commences around 8am through to about 6pm each day of the event. The schedule is set by Supercars Australia and will be released closer to the event dates.  All updates will be provided via the Supercars Australia website

Supercars Australia has appointed a Community Manager, Chris Yates, who can assist with enquiries about resident access, requests for assistance and the like.  Please email community@supercars.com for advice.

As part of the Newcastle 500 there is expected to be a range of entertainment activations, including a concert events on the Friday and Saturday night. City of Newcastle will also be activating the city with a range of community events to promote and showcase Newcastle over the weekend.

At all times, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and NSW Fire and Rescue will have access to all properties in the event precinct.

All bin collections will occur as normal during the event period unless advised by your service provider.
