As one of our city's most iconic heritage buildings, Newcastle City Hall speaks volumes of our proud past and who we are as a city. Opened in 1929, it is one of Newcastle’s most prestigious buildings and the heart of historic Civic Precinct.
We have been undertaking much needed conservation work on the historic building since 2009 with extensive restoration on the eastern facade, the clocktower and the southern facade including driveway ramps all complete. The large-scale restoration protects the heritage of the State Heritage listed building and helps reduce on-going maintenance costs.
Work to refurbish the western sandstone façade of the iconic building is underway and includes windows, lead flashing, waterproof membranes, timber doors and lighting. We're also working on the northern façade, including restoration of windows, repairing of rendered wall finishes and repainting.
