Arts, Culture and History Grants support activities that promote and celebrate our rich history, creative and diverse community and contribute to the achievement of the city’s desired outcomes for culture, heritage, and the arts.

Our Grants are highly competitive. The Grant Funding Round is open in May each year.

Arts, Culture and History Grant summarised

  • To support Activities that promote and celebrate our rich history, creative and diverse community and contribute to the achievement of the city's desired outcomes for culture, heritage and the arts.  
  • To support professional not-for-profit arts and cultural organisations by providing funding to grow sustainability and provide a funding base that organisations can leverage with other funding providers.   
  • ANNUAL PRIORITY: Activities that exponse local stories, both historic and contemporary, through cultural programming and build Newcastle's cultural identity. 

Round opens: 31 May 2023 at 9am (AEST) 

Round Closes: 30 June 2023 at 5pm (AEST) 

$4,000 - $20,000 (ex GST) 

*Up to $50,000 (ex GST) for Professional Not-For-Profit Arts and Cultural Organisations

$240,000 (ex GST)

*For all streams of Community Support Grants excluding Quick Response Grants (ie Arts, Culture and History; Social Inclusion; and Environment)

  • Legally constituted not-for-profit organisations  
  • Businesses   

Professional skills development, creation of new works and creative development, workshops, talks or public programs, digital or video-based Projects, community engagement Activities, heritage walking tours, virtual reality (VR) / augmented reality (AR) heritage interpretation. 

Funding is not provided for "business as usual" expenses.
