James Street Plaza: Bring this space to life

Background

Improving James Street Plaza is a placemaking project supporting our commitment to developing vibrant, safe and active public places under the Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan. Our initiative follows a Council resolution in February 2018 to prepare a concept plan for the upgrade of the plaza.

Engagement process 

In July 2019 we ran a series of engagement activities with the people who live, work and play in Hamilton to come up with ideas that will revitalise the local plaza to ensure we develop a master plan that meets the needs of the community and benefits all stakeholders.

CN prepared 2 concept Masterplans for James Street plaza which were on public exhibition from 26 November 2019 and closed 13 January 2020. 

Outcome 

The outcome of the community engagement with the preferred option was presented to a Councillor Workshop on 11 February 2020.  The decision was made to finalise the James Street Plaza Masterplan using the concept option 2 Modern Town Square Masterplan.
