Our Cycling Strategy
The Newcastle Cycling Strategy and Action Plan was adopted in March 2012 and is now due for review.
Feedback the community has provided to date on the Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan and the Local Strategic Planning Statement tell us that improving conditions for cycling, and active transport generally, remain top priorities. Currently, Cycleways is one of City of Newcastle’s top four priority projects.
In revising the Cycling Strategy and Action Plan, we will set priorities, clear directions and specific actions to be achieved over the next four to five years.
Since adoption of the Strategy, we have revised our route mapping and works program.
Expansion of, and improvements to, the network will remain an area of focus for the Cycleways program. We will also aim to balance complex Cycleway projects that involve longer lead times, with projects that can be designed and implemented more readily.
Revising the strategy with your help
Our cycling survey closed at 5pm Thursday 14 May 2020.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
Community feedback will inform the draft Newcastle Cycling Strategy and Action Plan to be placed on Public Exhibition for feedback later this year.
