Traffic & Pedestrian Project

Pedestrian Crossing Upgrade – Tighes Hill

Engagement has been finalised on a proposal to upgrade the crossing on Elizabeth Street near Union Street, Tighes Hill. The project has been adopted by Council.

Pedestrian Crossing Upgrade – Tighes Hill

We proposed to upgrade the crossing to improve safety and help with speeding issues in the area. Due to its proximity to Tighes Hill Public School and shops, the crossing can be very busy, especially during the before and after school period. Traffic calming, additional lighting and signage are all part of the proposal. All these changes are expected to improve.

The proposal to raise the crossing was included in the Tighes Hill Local Area Traffic Management Plan update of June 2017 and has in-principle support of the Newcastle City Traffic Committee.

The proposal included construction of a raised pedestrian crossing, construction of kerb extensions, signage and line marking, and street lighting upgrades

The proposal has now been adopted by Council.
