Wallsend is a growing local centre currently undergoing renewal.
Following feedback from local businesses, changes are proposed to some existing parking restrictions with the aim to best position Wallsend for medium to long-term development of the area under our Local Centres Plan.
The proposed parking changes aim to improve access to local businesses for residents and visitors and support upcoming work to revitalise the town centre.
The proposed parking changes involve introducing, or reducing the duration of, time restricted parking at various locations across the town centre. Changes to parking restrictions were proposed in the following locations:
• Bunn Street
• Metcalfe & Murnin Streets
• Nelson Street
• Tyrrell Street
• William & Charles Streets
• Kemp Street.
Thank you to the 62 community members who provided feedback on the proposed parking changes.
While most of the proposed changes were generally supported by the community, CN is not proceeding with the proposal for six 1-hour parking spaces on Bunn Street (near Tyrrell Street) at this time, in line with community feedback. We are also looking to decrease the number of proposed new or reduced time restricted spaces required on Nelson, Tyrrell and Murnin streets.
We are working to finalise the proposed parking changes, which are expected to go the Newcastle City Traffic Committee in August 2020. CN will keep the community up to date as the proposals progress.
