English actor, writer and comedian Stephen Fry served three months in prison in his late teens for credit card fraud. Not shy to talk about the experience, he has even written to other celebrities while they were incarcerated, including musician Boy George, novelist Jeffrey Archer and journalist Andy Coulson. Fry encourages inmates to turn the experience of prison into a positive one, including by using the opportunity to inspire and open other people’s minds through teaching. Stephen Fry has stated he is unsure if he would have become successful if he hadn’t spent time in prison. His prison experience is documented in his memoir, 'Moab is my Washpot'.
