Stockton Erosion Response

Erosion along Stockton Beach is a long-term issue being managed by the City of Newcastle in partnership with community, relevant agencies and stakeholders.

Large ocean swells, high tides and heavy rainfall from an easterly direction, since 7 February 2020, have caused additional erosion particularly along the southern shoreline.

The worst affected areas are the southern section of Stockton beach in front of the Stockton Holiday Park and Dalby Oval from the area north of the Stockton SLSC seawall to south of the Mitchell Street seawall.

All accessways to Stockton Beach have been closed until further notice and the community is advised to keep away from the top and bottom of sand cliffs as they may be unstable and collapse without warning. There is also exposed debris that poses a public safety risk.

City of Newcastle requests all residents and visitors be aware of changed conditions and follow directional signage, warnings notices and the instructions of authorities. There are also changes to traffic conditions that must be followed.
