Roads and Maritime Services is the agency to contact for information and advice about roadside tributes. Roads and Maritime Services has developed guidelines to assist community members to plan and prepare roadside tributes to ensure they do not present a safety risk for other drivers or those visiting the tribute. Before installing a tribute, community members are invited to contact Roads and Maritime Services to discuss and plan the location.
Tributes can be placed on local, regional or arterial roads. Freeways and motorways are not suitable, as it is illegal to stop unless it is an emergency.
It is the responsibility of those placing it to ensure that the tribute does not become a hazard to other road users. Consideration should also be given to nearby residents when choosing a location.
