Local centre facade improvement scheme now closed

City of Newcastle (CN) is excited to offer funding to upgrade building facades to help revitalise the local centres of Carrington and Beresfield. These are the two centres that are currently being renewed under our local centres program.

Funding will be granted for works on building facades (the exterior of the building that is visible from the public realm) and will be guided by the Facade Improvement Scheme (FIS) Guidelines.

Applications are closed and have been assessed by CN's Local Centres FIS Assessment Panel.  Grants have been offered to 19 recipients across the Beresfield and Carrington local centres.  Works are currently underway, with expected completion and grant funds awarded by August 2019.

Current status of process

  • Successful applicants have been issued with a letter of agreement to carry out the works as per the application. These works are to be completed within six months of offer.  In some cases extensions have been given due to works not finalised in the public domain.
  • Once the works are completed, the applicant will notify us to organise a site inspection and and provide all receipts and tax invoices indicating payment for the agreed works.
  • We will organise a site inspection and when works are satisfactorily completed, payment of the agreed grant funds to the applicant.
Refer to the   Facade Improvement Scheme flow chart for more information.
