Parking Permits

Resident parking and resident visitor parking permits are intended to cater for residents with no off-street parking.

Ticket and Timed Parking

Paid parking operates at various times throughout the city – please check kerbside signs for hours of operation. Outside the times indicated, parking is free and unrestricted.

Off Street Parking

Council provides one parking station for use in the city. The Mall Parking Station is located at 92 King Street Newcastle. Short term and long term parking options are available. For all parking enquiries please call 4974 5070.

Free 15 minute ticket parking locations

Council introduced free 15-minute parking in the Newcastle city centre in December 2015.

Motorbike Parking

On-street motorbike-only parking areas are designated by signage and pavement markings.

School Zone Parking

Council's parking officers actively patrol school zone parking areas.

Accessible Parking

Mobility parking zones are in various locations in the LGA. The concessions for time limited parking are explained in this section.

Sporting Fields

Council parking officers patrol roads and Council-operated parks, reserves and sporting grounds within the Newcastle Local Government area.

Event Parking

During major events you are encouraged to use public transport, or arrive early to find a safe and legal parking space. Before attending large events, check the event website for public transport and parking options.
