Beaches

All beaches will be patrolled during the summer swimming season from 26 September 2026 until 26 April 2027. Nobbys, Bar and Dixon Park Beach are patrolled all year round.

For your own safety, please swim only when beaches are patrolled.

Beach Lifeguard Patrol Times

Newcastle and Merewether Beach

  • Closed for Winter Season 2026.  Lifeguards will return to this location on 26 September 2026
  • 26 September 2026 to 1 November 2026 - 9am to 5.30pm
  • 2 November 2026 to 21 March 2027 - 7am to 5.30pm
  • 22 March 2027 to 26 April 2027 - 9am to 5.30pm* 
  • (*Sundays 9am - 5.30pm)
  • Closed for Winter Season 2027. Lifeguards will return to this location on 25 September 2027

Stockton Beach

  • Closed for Winter Season 2026. Lifeguards will return to this location on 26 September 2026
  • 26 September 2026 to 26 April 2027 - 9am to 5.30pm
  • Closed for Winter Season 2027. Lifeguards will return to this location on 25 September 2027

Bar, Nobbys and Dixon Park Beach

  • 1 July 2026 to 25 September 2026 – 8am to 4.30pm
  • 26 September 2026 to 1 November 2026 - 9am to 5.30pm
  • 2 November 2026 to 21 March 2027 - 7am to 5.30pm
  • (*Sundays 9am - 5:30pm)
  • 22 March 2027 to 26 April 2027 - 9am to 5.30pm*
  • 27 April 2027 to 24 September 2027 - 8am to 4.30pm

Surf Lifesaving Clubs

Beaches are patrolled on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays by Surf Lifesaving Clubs for 30 weeks from 26 September 2026 to 26 April 2027.

Ocean Baths

Merewether and Newcastle Ocean Baths are open all year round, subject to maintenance and cleaning.

Merewether Ocean Baths

  • 1 July 2026 to 25 September 2026 – 8am to 4.30pm 

  • 26 September 2026 to 26 April 2027 - 9am to 5.30pm

  • 27 April 2027 to 24 September 2027 - 8am to 4.30pm

Merewether Baths are cleaned every Thursday.

Newcastle Ocean Baths

  • 1 July 2026 to 25 September 2026 – 8am to 4.30pm 
  • 26 September 2026 to 26 April 2027 - 9am to 5.30pm
  • 27 April 2027 to 24 September 2027 - 8am to 4.30pm

Newcastle Ocean Baths will be closed for cleaning every Wednesday.
