City of Newcastle's Codes of Conduct set the minimum requirements for behaviour for Councillors, staff, and members of CN committees in carrying out their functions. The Codes also identify the minimum standards of performance and ethical conduct expected of all Councillors, staff, committee members. They assist CN officials in fulfilling their statutory duty to act honestly and exercise a reasonable degree of care and diligence and act in a way that enhances public confidence in local government. The Codes are based on the key principles of integrity, leadership, selflessness, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and respect. Our Codes are consistent with the Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW prescribed by the Office of Local Government.
